Bulwark - ION/GXT assists Offshore Exploration and Exploitation in West Africa using VectorSeis Ocean

Exploration and asset development can be challenging offshore West Africa. Legacy seismic datasets were not designed to deliver a holistic, basin-scale understanding of the petroleum systems along the West African margin. Reservoirs can be structurally complex with numerous intersecting faults and compartments. Conventional seismic images are often insufficient to delineate these structures, as the recorded acoustic data is frequently ubscured by seafloor multiples and gas Clouds. In some countries, the pressures to use indigenous oil field services firms are intense and frequently mandated within the operators' development agreements.

Mobil Nigeria awards ION Geophysical multi-year marine multi-component processing contract

ION Geophysical Corporation announced Tuesday that its GX Technology (GXT) Imaging Solutions group has been awarded a multi-year seismic data processing contract by Mobil Producing Nigeria (MPN) Unlimited, operator of the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC)/MPN joint Venture. The contract, the largest data processing award in ION's history, specifies that GXT and its long standing Nigerian partner - Bulwark Services Limited will provide advanced imaging services for a series of 2C and 4C seabed seismic surveys that will be acquired over the next several years over producing fields offshore Nigeria.

Advanced Seismic Technology for imaging through gas shadows

Renewed interest in multicomponent seismic data occurred during the late l990's primarily due to the development of Ocean-Bottom-Cable (OBC) seismic recording. OBC acquisition is particularly useful when producing fields contain heavy infrastructure (production facilities and pipelines) such that towed streamer data cannot be acquired. Four-component (4-C) OBC data (pressure, and x-y-2 components of particle velocity or acceleration are measured) record compressional waves (P-waves) and converted waves (P-S waves). The latter cannot be recorded with streamer as they do not propagate in water.

Bulwark Services, ION/GX Technology unviel expansion plan

The leading technology-focused seismic solutions companies are seeking to expand their operation and increase contribution to Nigeria's local content drive, amid continuing substantial investment in Nigeria. ION/GX Technology Vice President, Mike Mellen who is visiting Nigeria with a host of other Bulwark ION GX Technology top executives, told BusinessDay that there are a lot of activities going on here in Nigeria right now both in the industry in general and our company in particular, it is very exciting.
